A Bay Area native, Ammiel Campos attended Peralta Colleges and San Francisco State University after graduating from Skyline High School. While pursuing his Mass Communications degree in Audio Production and Recording, Ammiel worked for an East Bay non-profit organization providing college application assistance to high school seniors. Ammiel brings over eight years of experience in the optical field and his passion for helping people to the Kensington practice. In his free time, you can find him hunting for rare vintage vinyl records or cooking for his family.
Pina Miranda has been a Bay Area native and resident all her life; she worked as a supervisor at Starbucks and taught an afterschool multi-media class before joining our Kensington Optometry team in December 2017. She has enjoyed learning about the optical world while also getting to know the patients surrounding the Kensington community. She has now developed a passion for optometry, hopes to become a certified optician and is excited for any new opportunities this new role may bring.
In her free time, she likes to explore the many delicious food, coffee, and boba destinations with her family around the East Bay.
Brenda Regalado was born in Oakland, CA where she attended Oakland High School eventually graduating from California State University, East Bay in 2014. She moved to Santa Rosa shortly after graduating, where she began her career as an optometric assistant.
Brenda joined the Kensington Optometry team in November 2015 after returning to the Bay Area.
In December 2016, Brenda accepted a position at Stanford in medical billing and will be continuing her education at CSEB. We wish her all the best!
Johnny Nguyen was born in Wichita, KS and graduated South High in Kansas. He attended Wichita State University before moving to California when he was eighteen years old to pursue a career in optometry.
Johnny started working for Lenscrafters in the summer of 2001 as an optician. In 2003, he became a manager for Lenscrafters and begin branching off to work at most of the Lenscrafters in the Bay Area. In 2008, Johnny moved to San Diego, CA to pursue additional management training for Lenscrafters. There, he excelled as a leader to his management peers and worked at several locations training other managers before moving back to the Bay Area in 2009. Johnny left Lenscrafters to pursue a new path in private practice with Kensington Optometry in 2010.
In his free time, he enjoys cooking, traveling, zip-lining, camping, kids, snowboarding in Tahoe and many other outdoor activities. He also raises his seven year old yorkshire terrier at his home in Vallejo.
Johnny retired from Kensington Optometry and relocated to Houston, Texas in 2016 to pursue his passion: to become an Optometrist -we know he will do great things, and wish him well!
Ellen Sullivan was born and raised as a California native here in the Bay Area. She graduated Albany High in 1960 before attending California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, now called California College of The Arts. After raising her two sons, she began an occupational training program to pursue a new career as an optometric assistant.
Ellen started working at Kensington Optometry in 1996 with Dr. Thal and Dr. Cotteral and has since gained a lot of knowledge and experience. She finds it rewarding to help patients.
Ellen loves to spend her spare time with her family, her cat “Boomer”, and her two grandchildren. She also enjoys watching movies and live plays. Amongst her favorites are “Cinema Paradiso” and “Wizard of Oz”.

Ellen retired from Kensington Optometry in May of 2016, and is very happy to have more time to devote to her family. We miss her, but enjoy very much seeing her about the community!
Kelly Perez was born in New Orleans, LA and was graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2012. She moved to the Bay Area shortly after graduating and transferred her LensCrafters™ job of five years to Emeryville. Kelly joined the Kensington Optometry team in May and continues to enjoy learning more about the field while helping patients see their best.
Kelly enjoys exploring the best parks in the Bay Area and cooking new recipes.
Kelly retired from Kesington Optometry in 2015 to pursue her passion to become a Physical Therapist. She entered Physical Therapy school in Connecticut in 2016, and we know she will be amazing in her field!
